Direct Drive Axial Fan

Direct Drive Axial Fan

A direct drive axial fan is a tube axial fan in which the motor shaft is connected directly to the impeller. There is no belt, no pulley and no tensioning mechanism between the motor and the impeller. It is used where air has to be moved through a wall opening, a short duct run or a duct section with moderate static resistance: general workshop ventilation, warehouse air change, and supply or exhaust duty in underground car parks.

Product Introduction

Product Overview

A direct drive axial fan is a tube axial fan in which the motor shaft is connected directly to the impeller. There is no belt, no pulley and no tensioning mechanism between the motor and the impeller. It is used where air has to be moved through a wall opening, a short duct run or a duct section with moderate static resistance: general workshop ventilation, warehouse air change, and supply or exhaust duty in underground car parks.

Core Advantages

No belt means no belt maintenance schedule. On a belt-driven axial fan the belt is the wear part: it slips, stretches and cracks, and belt tension has to be checked and reset. On this product the only routine maintenance item is impeller cleaning. In oily air (chemical plants), lint-laden air (textile mills) or humid air (livestock buildings), where belts slip or fail within about two months, the direct-coupled arrangement removes that failure point from the maintenance plan.

Short overall length for tight installation space. Because the motor sits on the impeller shaft instead of beside it, the fan body is shorter than a belt-driven unit of the same impeller diameter. This matters where the fan goes into a duct void or above a suspended ceiling with limited depth.

Impeller balanced to G6.3. The aluminium impeller is corrected on a dynamic balancing machine to G6.3, which keeps vibration at the fan at the level defined in the applicable fan vibration standard. Lower vibration at the impeller means less load transferred to the motor bearings and to the ductwork.

Motor and enclosure built for dusty workshops. Motor bearings are branded, windings are vacuum-impregnated, and protection starts at IP54. The casing is galvanised steel or powder-coated carbon steel, and the flange is cut and rolled on CNC laser cutting and CNC rolling machines, so the flange dimensions are standard and pipe connection on site needs no extra machining.

Performance range matched to general ventilation loads. Air volume 1,600–18,000 m³/h and total pressure 50–800 Pa cover most industrial workshop and commercial building air-change duties without oversizing the fan.

Application Scenarios

Workshop ventilation and extraction of welding fume and oil mist in machining shops
• Routine air change in warehouses and logistics buildings to keep stored goods dry
• Supply or exhaust duty in underground car park ventilation systems
• Duct pressurisation where the fan sits in a duct void or ceiling void with limited depth
• General exhaust in light industrial and commercial buildings where no belt maintenance is wanted

OEM/ODM

We build this fan on a platform basis, so customer-specific configuration is handled at the component level rather than as a new design each time. Flanges can be produced to customer drawings, and motor and impeller combinations are matched to the duty point the customer specifies.

Customizable Items:
• Impeller blade angle
• Motor power rating
• Flange dimensions (GB, US standard or customer drawing)
• Explosion-proof motor
• Anti-corrosion coating
• Outlet direction

Quality Control

Each direct drive axial fan is air-volume tested and insulation tested before it leaves the factory. The impeller and motor are fixed separately for shipment so that the bearings are not loaded in transit. Export packing is fumigation-free wooden case; main loading ports are Shanghai and Ningbo.

FAQ

Q: Is the direct drive version more expensive than a belt-driven axial fan?

A: The purchase price is somewhat higher. The comparison that matters is the cost over the service life: a belt-driven fan needs a belt change every six to twelve months, and each change carries labour cost and production downtime. Over two to three years that usually exceeds the price difference. This direct drive axial fan has no belt or pulley to replace, and the bearings are rated for 20,000 hours under normal operating conditions.

Q: Can this fan be installed in a workshop with corrosive gas?

A: The standard version is for general environments. For acid, alkali or salt-mist conditions, specify a stainless steel impeller with an epoxy-coated casing, or select the corrosion-resistant axial fan series, which is built for corrosive duty.
